Fort collins is a wonderful place to live. It has been recognized as a great place to visit, raise a family and retire. But what makes this community of 170,000 people special? What makes it unique? If you are planning on calling Fort Collins home, what are some interesting things for you to know? Here is a list of ten for you!
Fun things to know about Fort Collins
- We get over 300 days of sunshine every year in Fort Collins. That is more sunshine than Miami, Florida or San Diego, California. Sunscreen should be your friend. We get sun, but what about other weather?
- You will become a weather watcher. One of the reasons for this is you need to know if you need a jacket while you are out and about.
- The air is dry here. You will need to get used to using hand lotion and lip balm.
- The location of Fort Collins is amazing. It takes just over an hour to get to Denver and Rocky Mountain National Park is also about an hour away.
- Traffic is pretty easy. It usually takes about 20 minutes to get across town. While you are driving around, you may be wishing you were enjoying some time with a special four legged friend.
- Everyone seems to have a dog. This may be because CSU has a Vet School here. No matter what the reason, we love to spend time with our four legged friends.
- Bikes rule in Fort Collins. Fort Collins has been designated as a Platinum bike community. There are only three platinum bike cities in the nation. You will find over 50 miles of paved trails to explore in the city and roads have designated bike lanes for safe riding. All of that bike riding may make you hungry. You are in luck! Fort Collins has you covered with a great food scene!
- Food is where it’s at! We have a vibrant food scene. New restaurants are always opening. Our local newspaper, The Coloradoan, does a weekly article on what is happening with our food scene. They cover what restaurant is opening, closing, changing their menu and everything that is happening with our food scene. Fun fact, Fort Collins, has more restaurants per capita than any other city west of the Mississippi other than San Fransisco. We don’t just ride bikes and eat food. We also have many other great ways to have fun.
- We have FUN covered. Fun can include ourdoor recreations, hiking, a drive in the mountains, time spent at Horsetooth Reservior, a drive-in movie, or taking in our craft beer culture. Fun could also include a simple walk around Old Town. Art is also an important part of our community. We even have an Andy Warhol!
- All this fun and great weather combines to a high quality of life that locals and visitors enjoy. No matter what you like to do, you will find yourself at home here.
